  • Served in WWII from 1942-1946
  • He was a corporal in the Army AirCorp
  • Deployment:  Pacific Theater, Aleutian Islands; Ladd Field, Fairbanks, Alaska; Great Falls, Montana

  • During World War II, the primary Army Air Corps airfield in the Aleutian Islands was Cape Field at Fort Glenn, located on Umnak Island, which was part of the larger Fort Glenn Army Airfield complex; other significant airfields included bases at Adak and Amchitka, all used for operations against Japanese forces occupying Kiska and Attu.
  • During WWII, Adak became a military base operated by the Army Air Corps for defensive action against Japanese forces occupying Attu and Kiska. As many as 90,000 troops mobilized to the Aleutians during the peak military activity.
  • Casualties were heavy on both sides. Out of a force of about 2,500, only 29 Japanese survived. Of the 15,000 US troops, 550 died and 1,500 were wounded. Another 1,200 Americans were casualties of Attu's climate.
